Hello!
My name is Berkley Wiltfong and I am the researcher and developer of The Human Mosaic. I post every now and then with information about the research I have been conducting in all things anthropology & global culture! If you love anthropology or if, like me a few years ago, you had no idea what the word even meant, there's something here for everyone!
My Story
I fell in love with anthropology by accident--a terrible accident but an accident nonetheless. After moving to Germany, I went to raise my hand in one of my classes and was instantly met with scandalized looks of horror from my peers. What I didn't know, then, was that, in Germany, students raised their forefingers to avoid associations with the Nazi salute when asking a question. That monumental cultural blunder left me with more questions than answers. Why did my culture as an American develop in such a way that raising one's hand was acceptable? What else was dependent upon my culture? Did my eating habits develop through years of societal build-up? What about my government? When my love for learning other languages and politics began to form as well, I was sold. Anthropology had the power to answer my questions about humanity and our nature. Eager to explore that further and share my findings, I began The Human Mosaic. I hope you find it as insightful and fascinating as I have. Happy reading!
